Horizon Series is an initiative by Sampradaya Dance Creations to provide presentation opportunities to emerging artists trained in Indian Classical and contemporary South Asian art practices in Canada.
About the Artistes
Dr. Shriya Srinivasan is Bharathanatyam artist known for her vibrant stage presence, and mature emotive capacity who trained under Guru Smt. Sujatha Srinivasan. She co-founded and directs Anubhava Dance Company, touring over 14 cities with original productions.
Shriya recently co-choreographed Vivarta: Transformations- an original work on environmental conservation and works to bring current social themes to life through the classical Indian arts. Blending her training in Carnatic music, yoga, and biomechanics, she brings a holistic approach to her art and recently performed in the Madras Music Academy’s Spirit of Youth Festival and HCL series.
Shriya is an incoming professor at Harvard University and aims to bring current social themes to life through the beauty and pristine form of the classical Indian arts. She was recently awarded the Lemelson prize for her inventions related to neuroprosthetics.
Vishakha Ghosh is an emerging Indian Classical dancer in Odissi style, originally from India. She discovered my passion for dance at the age of 3 and began exploring this beautiful art form called Odissi under the guidance of Guru Sharmila Biswas.
Prior to moving to Canada, I have had 15 years of academic style training at Odissi Vision and Movement Centre or commonly known as OVM, in India, under the guidance of Guru Sharmila Biswas. After moving to Canada, she continued performing and training under Guru Enakshi Sinha, the founder and artistic director of Mrudanga Academy of Performing Arts.
Under Guru Enakshi, she has been an active performer of Mrudanga’s ensemble as well as represented her Guru’s institute at several dance festivals in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec as a solo artist. Feats Festival, Indian Summer and Festival Next Gen Multiarts hosted by Kabir Center, are some of the notable ones.
