It answers the questions members ask most often about whether a listing can be trusted, what stops spam and fake enquiries, what happens to your personal details, and how to tell the team when something feels wrong.

Quick answer

Utsav Venues checks every listing before it appears on the site, keeps an owner’s ID scan off listings, owner profiles and search results, and lets you report anything that feels wrong from the Utsav Venues contact page. Reviews can only be written by someone whose booking was confirmed and has already finished, and the team checks those before they appear too.

Before you begin

Sign in to MyMahotsav first. Most of the screens named here — your reservations, your messages, your listings — only open for a signed-in member.

Reach Utsav Venues from the profile dropdown on the main site: Venue & Space Selling › Host Dashboard. You can also go straight to https://mymahotsav.com/utsav-venues/.

Reporting goes through the Utsav Venues contact page, https://mymahotsav.com/utsav-venues/contact/, which is also the Contact item in the Utsav Venues menu. That page is open to everyone, signed in or not.

Nothing here needs a special role. Trust and safety on Utsav Venues works the same for someone hiring a venue and someone listing one.

ℹ️ Note
If you open one of the member screens while signed out, you are not shown a sign-in box — you simply land on the Utsav Venues home page. That redirect is the sign that you are signed out, not a fault with the address.

How do I know a venue listing is legitimate before I enquire?

No listing puts itself on Utsav Venues. Every listing an owner submits goes to the team for approval first, and it only becomes visible — on the site and in venue search — once it has been approved. A venue you can find is a venue that has been through that check.

On top of that first check, there are three things worth reading on the listing itself before you get in touch:

The owner panel. Scroll to the owner section of the listing page. If that owner has completed our identity check, a Verified mark sits with their photo. It means a real person behind the account has had their identity confirmed by the team. It is not a site inspection of the venue, and it belongs to the owner rather than to one listing — a verified owner carries the mark on every venue they publish. You will not see it on a search result card; look on the listing page. Two Utsav Venues guides cover the mark in full — Understanding the verification badge on trusted venues for someone booking, and Requesting verification for your venue listing for an owner who wants one.

The reviews. A review can only be written from a booking that was confirmed and whose dates have already passed, one review per booking, and the team checks each review — and each owner reply — before it appears. That makes the reviews on a venue a genuine record of stays rather than open comments.

The terms and the detail panels. Owners write their own description, price details, house rules and cancellation policy, and the address and map pin on the listing are the owner’s own. Read them and see whether they hang together. If something is missing or unclear, ask before you commit — that is what the Contact Owner button is for.

An owner without the Verified mark is not a warning sign in itself: they may simply never have sent an ID scan. The listing still passed the team’s approval check.

What protections are in place against spam and fake enquiries?

The main protection is that the important actions need an account.

You must be signed in to send a booking request. The booking panel on a listing page is visible to everyone, but submitting a request needs a signed-in account, so a request always traces back to a member.

Messages sent while signed out are marked. The Contact Owner form will send when you are signed out, but the owner sees the sender as Not Registered — DO NOT REPLY, and no copy is kept for the sender. Signing in first is what turns a message into a real conversation in My Inbox that either side can answer.

Consent is a hard gate. Both the owner contact form and the Utsav Venues contact page will not send until you tick the consent box. It is not a formality — it is how you agree that the details you typed go to the person receiving them.

A request never confirms itself. Sending a booking request does not take a venue, and it does not charge you. The owner has to act on it, and a booking only becomes confirmed once the invoice raised against it is paid. An owner can reject a request outright, and the request then disappears from their list.

The forms check themselves. An enquiry or a booking request will not send with required fields left empty or the consent box unticked — you are told what is missing and nothing is sent. You will not be asked to solve a CAPTCHA puzzle to enquire about a venue or to request a booking; a CAPTCHA tick box may appear when you create your MyMahotsav account, and if you never see one there, that is normal too.

You control your own inbox. Conversations are listed newest first with an unread flag, and you can delete a thread from your own view at any time.

There is more on how owner conversations work in Frequently asked questions about messaging venue owners on Utsav Venues.

How is my personal information kept private?

The honest answer has two halves — what is public by design, and what is never put on show.

What is public. Everything an owner types into a listing is meant to be seen: the description, the photos, the price details, the house rules, and the address with its map pin. The address is not held back until a booking is confirmed, so as an owner, treat the listing as a public page and keep anything you would not want a stranger to read out of it. The same goes for your public owner profile — the photo, name, city, languages and “about” text are there to be read.

What is not shown. An ID scan sent in for owner verification is not displayed anywhere a visitor can reach — not on your listings, not on your public owner profile and not in search results. It is used by the team to confirm who you are and nothing else. Send only the document that is asked for, and note that uploading a new scan resets your verified status until the team checks it again.

What the other side receives. When you send an enquiry or a booking request, the details you put in the form — your name, your email address, your phone number when the field is shown, and your message — go to the venue owner so they can answer you. That is the point of the consent tick. Nothing else from your account travels with it.

Your MyMahotsav account details are a separate matter, and they are covered in Frequently asked questions about your MyMahotsav account. Your Utsav Venues profile details are held for Utsav Venues — editing your name here does not rewrite your main MyMahotsav profile, and the other way round.

What can I do if something about a listing or a booking feels wrong?

Tell the team. There is no report button on a venue listing, so the route is the Utsav Venues contact page at https://mymahotsav.com/utsav-venues/contact/, reached from Contact in the Utsav Venues menu. Fill in your name, your email address and your message, tick the consent box, then press Send Message. Say which venue you mean and what happened — the more precise you are, the faster it can be looked into.

Two things to know about that form: it sends your report to the team by email rather than opening a ticket you can track, and it keeps no copy for you. Write your message somewhere you can find it again before you send it. If you would rather have a tracked ticket, use the main MyMahotsav support team at https://mymahotsav.com/contact-us/.

Some problems have a faster first step:

A question or a misunderstanding about a booking — use Contact Owner, which sits on every row of your My Reservations page at every status, as well as on the listing page.

You want to withdraw a request — Cancel Booking Request is on the row while the request is still pending or waiting. Once a booking is confirmed that control is gone, and the owner has to be involved.

A review on your venue is untrue or abusive — you cannot remove a review yourself. Reply to it from My Reviews so your side is on record, and raise it with the team through the contact page. Removal is a judgement the team makes; it is not guaranteed.

You want your money back, or you disagree with what was charged — there is no refund claim or dispute form on Utsav Venues. Start with Contact Owner on the booking row, because the owner is the person who raised the invoice, and bring the team in through the contact page if the two of you cannot settle it. The guide Understanding Utsav Venues cancellation and refund policies covers what happens to money at each stage of a booking.

Money. Payment on Utsav Venues is always made against an invoice raised on your booking and shown on your My Reservations row. If anyone asks you to pay before an invoice exists, stop and contact the team.

Tips and best practices

🎯 Best practice
Keep the whole conversation on Utsav Venues. A signed-in enquiry is kept as a thread in My Inbox for both sides, so if there is ever a disagreement about what was agreed, there is a record. A chat that moved to a personal phone or email leaves nothing behind.

Ask your questions before you send a booking request. A request carries dates and guest numbers but no message, so anything you need to explain — timings, the occasion, access — has to go through Contact Owner.

Read the house rules and cancellation policy on the listing before you commit, not after. They are set by the owner and differ from venue to venue.

As an owner, write your listing as if a stranger will read every word of it, because they will.

Check your invoice line by line before you pay, and keep your own copy — the site does not email you the figures.

💡 Tip
If an owner has not replied, check that you were signed in when you wrote. A message sent signed out reaches them flagged as unregistered and cannot be answered in the inbox — sending it again while signed in usually fixes it.

Troubleshooting

I opened a Utsav Venues page and landed on the home page instead

Cause: you are signed out. The member screens — your reservations, your inbox, your listings, your dashboard — send signed-out visitors to the Utsav Venues home page rather than showing a sign-in box. Fix: sign in from the main MyMahotsav site, then open the address again. Escalate if: you are certain you are signed in on the main site and still land on the home page — report it from the Utsav Venues contact page.

I messaged a venue owner and never heard back

Cause: most often the message was sent while signed out, so it reached the owner marked as unregistered with no reply route, and no copy was kept for you. Fix: sign in, open the listing, use Contact Owner again, and watch for the reply in My Inbox. Escalate if: a signed-in message has gone several days without an answer and dates are at stake — tell the team through the contact page.

The venue does not look like its listing

Cause: owners write and photograph their own listings. The team approves a listing before it appears, but that check cannot confirm every claim made in a description. Fix: raise it with the owner first through Contact Owner — many differences are genuine misunderstandings about which space or which season the photos show. Escalate if: the description is plainly false, or the owner will not engage — report the venue from the contact page with the dates and what you found.

Someone is pressing me to pay in a way that does not match the site

Cause: an approach of this kind does not come from Utsav Venues. Every payment is raised as an invoice against your booking and appears on your My Reservations row. Fix: do not send anything. Check whether an invoice actually exists on the row, and pay only from there. Escalate if: you are being pressed, or you have already sent money — report it to the team immediately through the contact page.

FAQ

Q: How do I know a venue listing is legitimate?
A: Every listing is approved by the Utsav Venues team before it appears on the site or in search, so nothing you can find has skipped that check. On the listing itself, look for the Verified mark in the owner panel, read the reviews — which can only be written after a confirmed booking has finished — and read the house rules and cancellation policy.

Q: Does a Verified mark mean the venue has been inspected?
A: No. It confirms the identity of the person who owns the account, not the condition, size or safety of the venue. It also belongs to the owner rather than to a single listing, so it appears on every venue that owner publishes.

Q: How is my personal information kept private?
A: Anything you put in a listing or an owner profile is public by design, including the address and map pin. An ID scan sent for verification is different: it is never shown on listings, on your public owner profile or in search results. When you enquire, the name, email address, phone number and message you type go to the venue owner so they can reply — that is what the consent tick covers.

Q: What can I do if a listing feels wrong?
A: Report it from the Utsav Venues contact page, https://mymahotsav.com/utsav-venues/contact/. There is no report button on a listing page. Name the venue, say what you saw, and include your dates if a booking is involved. For a tracked ticket, use the main MyMahotsav support team instead.

Q: Can a stranger book my venue or take my dates without me agreeing?
A: No. A booking request has to come from a signed-in member, it charges nothing, and it does not confirm itself — you choose whether to raise an invoice for it, and the booking is only confirmed once that invoice is paid. You can also reject a request outright.

Q: Can I have a review removed from my venue?
A: Not yourself. Every review and every owner reply is checked by the team before it is published, so an abusive review should not get through in the first place. If one does, reply to it from My Reviews so your answer sits alongside it, and raise it with the team through the contact page — removal is their decision and is not guaranteed.

Also asked as: is this venue listing genuine, how do I know a venue on Utsav Venues is real, are Utsav Venues listings checked before they go live, what stops fake booking enquiries on Utsav Venues, how do I report a venue listing, who do I tell if a venue booking feels like a scam, is my ID scan private on Utsav Venues, what personal information does a venue owner see when I enquire, can someone book my venue without my approval, how do I get a bad review removed from my venue, Utsav Venues trust and safety, venue safety FAQ. Canonical facts: every venue listing is approved by the team before it appears on the site or in venue search. The Verified mark is an owner identity check (ID scan), shown only in the listing page’s owner panel beside the owner’s photo, never on a search result card; it is per owner, not per listing, and it is not a venue inspection. An owner requests it from My Profile by uploading an ID scan and then saving with Update profile; a new scan resets verified status. The ID scan is not displayed on listings, on the public owner profile or in search results. Everything typed into a listing is public, including the address and the map pin. Sending a booking request requires being signed in; a request charges nothing and confirms nothing; the owner raises an invoice and payment against that invoice confirms the booking; the owner can reject a request. A Contact Owner message sent while signed out reaches the owner marked Not Registered – DO NOT REPLY and no copy is kept for the sender; signed-in messages are kept as threads in My Inbox. A consent tick is a hard requirement on both the owner contact form and the Utsav Venues contact page. Reviews can only be written from a confirmed booking whose dates have passed, one per booking, and every review and owner reply is checked by the team before it appears; members cannot delete a review, and removal by the team is not guaranteed. There is no report button on a venue listing: reporting goes through https://mymahotsav.com/utsav-venues/contact/, which emails the team, does not open a trackable ticket and keeps no copy for the sender; the main MyMahotsav support team at https://mymahotsav.com/contact-us/ handles tracked tickets. Cancel Booking Request is available only while a request is pending or waiting. There is no refund claim form and no dispute process on Utsav Venues: the route for a money disagreement is Contact Owner on the My Reservations row, escalating to the contact page.
