Far more often the quiz is simply locked: it stays shut until the lesson before it has been marked complete, and the quiz page says so &mdash; select Back on the notice, finish that lesson, then re-open the quiz. If the quiz is locked, the page still loads &mdash; you get the quiz title, the instructor&rsquo;s name and a <strong>Message Instructor<\/strong> button &mdash; but instead of the first question there is an amber notice reading &lsquo;Please go back and complete the previous lesson.&rsquo; with a <strong>Back<\/strong> button beside it.<\/p>\n<p>This is a lock, not a fault, and not a failed attempt. Reading a lesson is not enough on its own &mdash; the quiz unlocks on the completion mark, not on the time you spent there.<\/li>\n<li>Check that the lesson now shows a filled tick in the sidebar and that the percentage above the lesson list has moved.<\/li>\n<li>Select the quiz again from the <strong>Quizzes<\/strong> section.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Until that completion mark is recorded, the quiz page keeps showing exactly the same amber notice and <strong>Back<\/strong> button, as below. Once it is ticked, the first question appears here instead.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Step 4 &mdash; If the quiz is not waiting on a lesson, message the instructor<\/h2>\n<p>A different problem is at work if the quiz shows no lesson notice but still refuses to start &mdash; for example it reports an attempt already in progress, or says no attempts remain when you believe you have some left. That usually means an earlier attempt was never finished: the tab was closed, the device went to sleep, or the sign-in session timed out before the answers were submitted.<\/p>\n<p>Try this first, in order:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Sign out and sign in again, then re-open the quiz. This clears an expired session, which is the most common cause of a phantom attempt.<\/li>\n<li>Try once in a different browser, or with a private window, to rule out a stale page held in your browser&rsquo;s cache.<\/li>\n<li>If it still will not start, select <strong>Message Instructor<\/strong> on the quiz page. There is no control in the course player that lets a learner delete their own attempt history, so it is not something you can fix by re-trying &mdash; ask, and it is usually sorted the same day.<\/div>\n<h2>For instructors: clearing a stuck attempt or raising the attempts limit<\/h2>\n<p>Two different fixes solve two different problems, so check which one you are looking at before you change anything.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The attempt is stuck.<\/strong> The learner started an attempt that never completed, and it is still recorded as in progress. Clear that attempt from the course&rsquo;s quiz statistics &mdash; the record of who has attempted the quiz and what they scored. Reading time is not tracked; the completion mark is. <strong>Fix:<\/strong> open the lesson again, go to the end, use the button that marks it complete, and confirm a filled tick appears beside it in the sidebar and the percentage above the lesson list has moved. Then re-open the quiz. <strong>Escalate if:<\/strong> the lesson shows its tick and the percentage has risen, but the quiz still shows the amber notice &mdash; send the course and quiz names to the Support Portal.<\/p>\n<h3>My attempt has been sitting at &lsquo;in progress&rsquo; for days<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Cause:<\/strong> the attempt was never submitted &mdash; the tab was closed, the device slept, or the sign-in session timed out mid-quiz &mdash; so it is still recorded as open. <strong>Fix:<\/strong> sign out, sign in again and re-open the quiz.
