Our first event is designed to complement the programme of the Widescreen Weekend at the Science + Media Museum. On the 28th September the screening is Kagaaz Ke Phool (Paper Flowers) from 1959, the first CinemaScope film produced in India. It is directed by and stars Guru Dutt, one of the most celebrated of Indian filmmakers who died tragically young aged 39 in 1964.
Our event will offer a screening of Pyaasa (1957) in which Guru Dutt also stars as well as directs. Because of its length and following the Indian cinema tradition we will show the film in two halves. We will discuss his career and the kinds of films popular in India in the 1950s.
Tea and coffee will be provided and you are welcome to bring your own lunch.
Tickets are available online and on the door but due to limited places, please let us know if you are planning to buy your ticket on the door.
