When:
Every Thursday (weather permitting).
6pm – 8pm
Outdoors, at the Front Street Oven in Robie Tufts Park, Wolfville
What to expect:
- Experiment with local food & cooking with fire. Learn to cook in a wood-fired oven, creating new recipes with your community.
- Cook, learn and be together as a community, connect with friends old and new, and have a fun time!
- A space where everyone is welcome, regardless of experience. Our goal at the oven is to have everyone in our community feel comfortable participating.
- A different theme / type(s) of food every week, inspired by community members and your suggestions!
- We will provide the base food of whatever is being cooked that day (except for open days) (e.g. dough for pizza, masa for tacos). You (the community) will bring your own fillings and toppings.
All cooked up with a side of community spirit!
Theme this week: Indian Stuffed Paranthas with Sucheta!
Together we’ll learn how to make Indian Paranthas and stuff them with different vegetable fillings and spices. Sucheta will be leading this one!
We will provide the parantha dough, some potato filling, and spices.
What to Bring
- Please bring some fillings if you can! Options include grated cauliflower, potatoes, paneer, spinach or kale, cabbage, and more. We can support with prep and seasoning and we’ll have lots of spices on hand.
- Side dishes such as yogurt (or raita which is yogurt with various additions: cucumber-mint, cucumber-red onion-tomato, etc.), salads or other foods you would be happy to share.
- Anything you’d like to drink at your lovely picnic meal in the park.
- Things needed for food prep like a cutting board and knives.
- Plates, bowls, and cutlery for enjoying your meal.
- Picnic blankets or chairs for additional seating (there are also long picnic tables in the park).
We invite you to offer a donation to help cover costs of dough & running Community Cookouts. Thank you!
Please “Register” so we have a sense of numbers, can make a big batch of dough, and can plan to best host everyone in the space.
Hope to see you this week!
Your hosts,
Caroline & Duncan
