Pride Weekend with sploosh!

June 10, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 6:00 pm SMT

safe conversations. card games. writing exercises. recording booth. artisanal vendors. performances. lectures. workshops. magazine launch.

SURPRISE! IT’S A GAY DAY! We have partnered with RIOT! to offer you a once-in-a-lifetime deal. For just $35, snag an all-day pass to sploosh!’s events (from 11:00 to 18:00) as well as a good seat at RIOT!’s show at 9:30pm! Quick!!

The event space is divided into three sections: THE SAFEST SPACE, GIMME JUST A LITTLE BIT (XS), and a workshop/performance space for ticketed events. Entry to the space is free.

THE SAFEST SPACE is exactly what it sounds like: a safe space for queer folks of all shades, ages, and backgrounds to come together and have cosy conversations and perhaps give each other advice to navigate a world that can be hostile at times. We will provide recording equipment for you to record things you have been wanting to say — perhaps a love/hate letter? There will be card games available. There will also be a generative writing workshop led by Andrew Devadason throughout the day! Come for the vibes.

GIMME JUST A LITTLE BIT (XS) is our way of bringing Rina Sawayama to Singapore. We will be bringing in a total of 15 vendors ranging from tarot readers to zine crafters, drag artists to jewellers. Come and support your favourite local, independent artists!

[TICKETED EVENTS]

1200-1400: Embroidery With Love

Looking for a chill way to spend Pride? Stitch along with Jennifer Anne Champion, poet and textile artist. She will guide you through basic embroidery techniques to make your very own 6” inch hoop, expressing your own interpretation of what it means to love freely.

1430-1530: WHO’S A GOOD GIRL?

A performance lecture on queerness, desirability, alienation and its concomitant intersections. In this workshop Marylyn Tan embarks on an exploration of writing poetry as a means towards bridging desire. Participants will trade stories and personal histories, coming together to write experimental poetry and explore desire in terms of the body, kink, tactility/the sensuous, and language. Each participant is encouraged to bring a small object (approx. 3 – 50cm long) to the workshop that symbolises desire to them.

1600-1700: ALIEN SUPERSTARS (Admission is free for open-micers)

You’re one of one, you’re the only one. Beyonce could not make it for our show but we have our very own Zeha, who will be performing dramatic readings, and (virtually) nor who will be presenting an art video of hers. Also, we have open mic slots for you to perform your most outrageous set ever (lip-sync to Beyonce, maybe?)! By the way, we are paying each open micer $10!

Zeha (b. 2000) is a multi-disciplinary artist. They go by the pronouns they/them. Zeha’s works focus on reimagining the pasts and humans of the now. Their performances centre around the relationships between queerness, ethnicity, famil(y)iarity and reconciliation.

nor’s artistic practice hopes to situate belonging and community within speculative timelines. Their works span the disciplines of photography, film, video, performance, text and spoken word poetry to engage with ideas of belonging and identity through frameworks of gender performance, ethnographic portraits and transnational histories. They presented a solo exhibition In Love at Coda Culture (2018, Singapore), and has shown at group exhibitions including An Exercise of Meaning in a Glitch Season at the National Gallery Singapore (2020-2021), MAT at the Objectifs – Centre for Photography & Film (2019, Singapore), My Body, Your Body, Their Body at Kawanishi Gallery (2019, Japan) and Minor Infelicites at Post Territory Ujeongguk (2020, South Korea).

1700-1800: RISE! (Admission is free for contributors)

Join us for the launch of the first issue of the sploosh! Magazine! Our editors, Laura Jane and Anurak Saelaow, will share about their editorial process for RISE, and a few of our contributors will read from or talk about their works and artistic practice!
