A full day of exploration into the deeper meaning, precision, and intention of Indian Fusion Belly Dance! The classical and folk dances of India offer a richly defined and codified tapestry of movement expression and storytelling. The entirety of the human body is utilized and expressed through dance and provides a glimpse into the POWER and BEAUTY of our body as we endeavor to express the Infinite through the physical form. In this one day, IN-PERSON, workshop we will explore the technique and nuances unique to Indian dance, the ancient sources that inspired these movements, and how to layer it on to belly dance to create a beautiful synergy of the two. Tying this all together, we will finish our day by learning a short devotional choreography dedicated to the GODDESS LAKSHMI called Sundari Devi (The Beautiful Goddess). Details of the history, mythology, and devotional elements that influence and support our dance will be touched upon throughout the class.
The first half of the day will focus on a structured warm-up, Indian Fusion technique, postures, and movement principles, and ‘dance phrases’ to weave it all together. The second half of the day will be focused on a short devotional choreography called Sundari Devi (Beautiful Goddess) in honor of the GODDESS LAKSHIMI, Goddess of Beauty, Power, and Prosperity.
*To get the most out of this workshop, it is strongly recommended that each participant have at least ONE year of bellydance experience before attending
