How to prepare the Prasad of Satyanarayan Puja?

Satyanarayan Puja is a ceremony performed by Hindus before or after major occasions such as marriage, naming ceremony and griha-sanskar ceremony. All the devotees believe that observing Satyanarayan Swami Vrat will fulfill all their wishes. This can be done on any day for any purpose. However, Satyanarayan Swamy Puja is usually performed on the full moon day of every month; It can also be done on special occasions or at times of achievements to show respect and reverence to Lord Vishnu.

The puja begins with a prayer to Lord Ganesha who is the remover of all obstacles. Lord Ganesha is worshiped by chanting the mantras of Lord Ganesha and offering prasad like modaks and laddus. After Ganesh Puja, the priest starts reading the Satyanarayan Katha which consists of 5 chapters. After reading all the 5 chapters (kathas) of Satyanarayan Swami, Satyanarayan Puja Prasad is distributed.

Sheera or Halwa for Satyanarayan Puja:

Preparation of Satyanarayan Puja Prasad is done with semolina, sugar, ghee, milk etc. The preparation of Satyanarayan Maha Puja Prasad is similar to that of semolina molasses or sajji or pudding.

Satyanarayan Puja Prasad Preparation:

  • Chiroti rava / semolina 1 cup
  • sugar 1 cup
  • Ghee cup
  • milk 2 cups
  • Cardamom 2 [fine powder]
  • Raisins and Cashews

Instructions for preparing Satyanarayan Puja Prasad:

  • Place a thick bottomed pan or kadhai on medium flame and add 4 spoons of ghee in a pan. Once the ghee melts, roast the raisins and cashews and transfer them to a small pot.
  • Now in the same pan add semolina or chiroti rava and fry it till it smells good.
  • In the same pan or wok add 2 cups of milk and let it boil well. Then add 1 cup of sugar to the boiled milk and let the sugar dissolve.
  • Slowly add the roasted rava to the boiled milk and stir evenly. Adding semolina gradually avoids lump formation. And cook for about 4 to 5 minutes until the milk evaporates properly.
  • Add the remaining ghee, roasted raisins, cardamom powder to the pan and stir well.
  • Now the preparation of Satyanarayan Puja Prasad is complete and it is ready for Navadya (offering) to Shree Satyanarayan Swami.

pay attention:

  • Roast the semolina or rava well otherwise it tastes sticky.
  • Some of them add a pinch of edible camphor in the preparation of South India Satyanarayan Puja Prasad as it tastes really good.
  • If you are using sooji or chiroti rava in the stated quantity, then the quantity of water and milk mentioned is fine. If you are using more than described semolina, add extra water milk otherwise the prasad will become very dry.
  • The preparation of this Satyanarayan Puja Prasad takes very less time. Saji or Semolina Halwa is a heart favorite for many because it tastes great. Also, it can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days.

Satyanarayan Puja Prasad preparation is made with semolina, sugar, ghee, milk etc. The Satyanarayan Maha Puja Prasad preparation is similar to Semolina Sheera or Sajige or Halwa.
