Excellent Linux machine
I purchased the 16Gb RAM 512Gb SSD 4-core i7 version. I had no intention of using as a W11 machine, and instead installed Linux Mint on it. To do this I just flashed the Mint ISO to a flash drive, set the BIOS to boot from USB and rebooted (hold F2 while turning on to get to the BIOS settings). Once running (from USB) there is an icon on the Mint desktop to install Mint – I just clicked that and presto, it installed (with a few warning about trashing whatever was already on the SSD).Mint works absolutely fine on this machine. It boots from cold to the login screen in 12 secs. After entering the password the desktop appears and is fully functional in 3 secs. I use a USB to Ethernet adapter at home (I found both USB 3.0 or 2.0 work fine for most things) and the Wifi is nice and stable for when I’m out and about.I’m very pleased with this machine, it is fast and responsive and more than powerful enough for what I need it for. I’ve voided the warranty because I replaced the operating system, I’m sure, but there’s nothing wrong with the hardware – it’s solidly built – and it has a gorgeous 15.6″ IPS screen. The keyboard has low-profile ‘chiclet’ keys, as you’d expect, and they are nicely tactile. The mousepad is well placed so it doesn’t get in the way (for most people), and is sensitive enough to not need adjusting at the software level.Obviously, I cannot tell you how it runs with Windows 11 on it, but it’s a good machine and a quality build. The graphics processor bites well, the camera is good – more than good enough using Zoom or Skype (tested on both), and the microphone is sensitive enough to capture voice well. The speakers are not exactly studio quality, so you won’t be playing music for a party through them, but they play system sounds nicely and are more than good enough to have a conversation with someone using Zoom or Skype – they have enough clarity and volume not too tinny.

Not a backlit keyboard
The laptops fine does everything I need , a bit plasticky and rough round the edges but ok and does the job well !But the main reason I bought this model laptop was for the backlit keyboard and unfortunately it doesn’t have one ,even though it says it has in the product description under special features ?I contacted Amazon who were no help whatsoever they told me to get in touch with Asus myself, they did offer me a refund then offered me a £20 voucher but they said it won’t show on my account until I buy something that conforms to their policy ? So in reality I was fobbed off without a sorry! And to cap it all during chat with a Amazon customer care operative ,they terminated the chat before I had finished talking !Customer care ??

Can’t connect to two moniros
I bought this for my wife a while back and she used it as a laptop which works fine. I needed an upgrade so instead of getting a new laptop I just created a new profile on this laptop, hoping to connect it to two monitors I have. The HDMI port allows me to connect to one monitor. The USB-C port on this machine is for Data Transfer only so you can not connect a monitor or a docking port to that port. For an i7 laptop, you would hope that this would be included. Had I know in advance I wouldn’t have bought it. If you need to connect two monitors, this is not the laptop for you. Other than that, it’s a good machine.

What you see in this advert is NOT what you GET!! Amazon do not appear to care either when told!
This laptop is not what you receive!!You do NOT get a silver keyboard it is a grey/brown plastic keyboardYou do NOT get backlit keyboard at all!!You do NOT get 3.9GHz you actually get 1.3GHz which will not load a lot of programs. This is even worse than an old 12 year laptop I let my granddaughters play with!!I tried desperately to inform Amazon but you cannot get hold of anyone in the UK – maybe they are all at home permanently or something! I emailed – they bounce back!!Whst has happened to Amazon – they used to be great at customer service and what they sold – now they are no good at any of it as you cannot get hold of anyone – I did get hold of two people in India – one sounded like they were having a party when I spoke to them!! One appeared to be in Jamaca!! I needed someone in the UK that could help!DO NOT ORDER THIS is is overpricved and not what it appears to be at all!
