A gurdwara is a place of worship for followers of Sikhism, a monotheistic religion that originated in the Punjab region of India. The word “gurdwara” means “doorway to the Guru.” The central focus of a gurdwara is the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism, which is treated with the utmost respect and reverence. Gurdwaras typically have a langar, or community kitchen, where free meals are served to all visitors regardless of their religious or social background. Gurdwaras are open to people of all faiths and are considered a symbol of equality and inclusivity in Sikhism.
