Grammy® Nominated Berklee Indian Ensemble is one of the hippest new acts to emerge from Boston. A global viral sensation with over 300 million streams, the Ensemble brings to fore a new Indian sound that melds classical, folk, Sufi, and contemporary Indian music, with influences ranging from progressive rock and jazz to Middle Eastern and African flavors.
With high profile collaborations featuring Grammy winning legends such as composer A.R. Rahman and tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, and a series of signature original works, the Ensemble has mastered the art of honoring age-old musical traditions while boldly experimenting with cross-pollination of genres, cultures, and multidisciplinary art forms.
Founded in 2011 by Annette Philip, the first Indian musician to serve as a faculty member at Berklee College of Music, the Ensemble went from producing sold-out live concerts with immersive technology, to headlining international festivals in North America and Asia, hosting global music workshops, and creating viral video content. The Ensemble was in such high demand globally that it organically transitioned into a professional band in 2021, marking the Ensemble’s 10 year anniversary. In 2022, the Ensemble released their first collection of transnational, genre-bending music on their hotly-anticipated debut album, Shuruaat (Hindi for ‘beginning’), featuring 98 musicians from 39 countries, marking a new chapter for this global music phenomenon.
