Process of Satyanarayan Puja

Satyanarayana Puja begins with offering prayers to Lord Ganesha so that all obstacles can be successfully removed if the Puja is performed in a wrong way. This can be achieved by chanting various names of Lord Ganesha and offering him Prasad (food items served to the Lord). Lord Ganesha is offered modak, which is a mixture of coconut and sugar, or laddus can also be offered to him. Bathing the Lord with flower petals is the last process.

Another important part of this prayer includes the prayer to the Navagraha – or the nine important celestial beings of this universe, they include the following names:

  1. Sun
  2. moon
  3. Angarak or Mars
  4. Buddha or Mercury
  5. Jupiter
  6. dry or dry
  7. saturn
  8. Head of Rahu or Svarbhanu
  9. Ketu or Swarbhanu’s tail

The remaining rituals involve worshiping and praying to Satyanarayana, one of the most merciful forms of Lord Vishnu. The first step is to clean the place where the deity is to be kept. Once the deity is placed in the right position, Satyanarayana Swamy can be worshipped. The names of Lord Satyanarayan can be chanted with various offerings such as in the form of prasad, fruits, sweets etc.

Another important requirement for this puja is the story of Satyanarayana, which is to be heard by all the devotees who participate in this puja.

The puja is concluded with an aarti, in which a fire-lit lamp is circumambulated in the vicinity of the image of Lord Satyanarayana. Once the puja is over, the observers and participants of this puja must accept the offerings made to the Lord and seek blessings.
